Clark's predecessor was the George R. Ritchie Manufacturing Company, which originated in 1903. Clark Equipment Corporation is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of industrial and construction machinery and equipment. It took over the Michigan Power Shovel Company in 1953.

In 1995, Clark was acquired by Ingersoll Rand. In 2007, Ingersoll Rand sold Clark Equipment to Doosan International of South Korea. The sale included Ingersoll Rand's construction equipment group.
