Fermec was created in 1992 through a management buyout of the MF Industrial division. Fermec was acquired from the management team by Case IH in 1997 and operated under the Case CE division.

In 2001, when Fermec was sold to Terex, it ceased trading as a brand and the models were renamed Terex models.

In 2017, Mecalac acquired the Terex production facility in Coventry, UK. The plant, renamed Mecalac Construction Equipment UK, manufactured a range of backhoe loaders and field dumpers previously sold under the Terex, Fermec and Benford brands.
